Shirley Wilson Stack

Mrs. Shirley Wilson Stack, age 82 of Silerton, Tennessee passed away Tuesday morning, April 23, 2019 at Baptist East Hospital, Memphis.

A native and resident of the Silerton community in Hardeman County, she was the daughter of the late Ossie B. and Gladys Lambert Wilson. She married Mr. James Stack on March 26, 1955 and his passing was on August 11, 2017 after 62 years of marriage.

Mrs. Stack attended Silerton School and was a 1955 graduate of Bolivar Central High School. She was a star basketball player at both schools and life-long friends with two of her teammates, Gloria Prather and Juanita Connors. A member of Silerton Methodist Church, she enjoyed watching cooking shows (especially Italian) which helped foster her abilities as an excellent southern cook. She enjoyed being a homemaker and spent 20 years serving as a baby-sitter and caring for children in and around Silerton. The family would like to thank the Kennedy and Rogers families for being such wonderful neighbors throughout the years.

Mrs. Stack is survived by her daughter, Deborah "Debbie" Leathers and husband, Gary, of Silerton; her son, Curtis Stack and wife, Christy, of Toone; sister, Sylvia Powell of Hickory Valley; brother, Sherry Wilson of Southaven, MS; five grandchildren, Matthew Tyler Leathers, Jordan (Mallory) Stack, Lindsey (Greg) Workmon, Adam and David Craft; two great-grandchildren, Decker Stack and Everett Workmon and 'one on the way'; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Stack was preceded in death by a sister and her husband, Shelby and George Burkeen; a unnamed infant sister; two brothers, Sherman and Wilburn Wilson (passed at age 3); a daughter-in-law, Susan Smith Stack (wife of Curtis); a sister-in-law, Debra Wilson (wife of Sherry); four nieces, Susan Watson, Diane Moon, Linda Young and Billie Stack; and five nephews, David Burkeen, Dell Burkeen, Junior Stack, Danny Stack and Jeff Understeller.

Graveside services will take place Friday, April 26, 2019 at the Silerton Baptist Church Cemetery with Robert L. Gibson officiating, and Matthew Leathers, Jordan Stack, Greg Workmon, David Craft, Daniel Burkeen, Curtis Stack, Sherry Wilson and Gary Leathers serving as pall bearers.
