Skippy E. Rowland departed this life Friday, January 22, 2021 at Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth, Mississippi.
He was born in Jackson and lived most all of his life in Chester County, son of the late Burl Eugene and Zola Mae Arnold Rowland. His paternal grandparents were the late Tom and Annie Rowland and maternal grandparents were the late Cal and Annie Arnold.
Skippy served six years in the Tennessee National Guard and was united in marriage to the former Shirley Davis on Saturday, July 25, 1970. He worked at Harmon Automotive as a Receiver for several years, but primarily served the area as pastor for several Baptist churches including Wolf Pen, New Bethel, Essary Springs, Shady Grove, Pleasant Hill and, at the time of his death, Rocky Springs Baptist Church. Bro. Rowland loved to preach God's word and was a friend to all he met. He also enjoyed being a commercial fisherman.
In addition to his wife of 50 years, he is survived by two daughters, Lesley (Ron) Meeks of Ripley, MS and Angel Riendeau of Selmer; one son, Josh Rowland of Jackson; three sisters, Betty Robison of Bruceton, TN, Nelda (Jerry) Fry of Bolivar and Phyllis (Jimmy) Donaldson of Henderson; and six grandchildren, Brett and Bailey Meeks and Tryson, Lillian, Bella and Bryson Riendeau.
While visiting or attending services for Bro. Rowland, please consider the following guidelines:
* Maintain 6 feet between yourself and the next closest person;
* Refrain from hugs and handshakes;
* When you sneeze or cough, use your elbow to cover your nose and mouth;
* Wash your hands often;
* Avoid touching your face; and
* Minimize time spent in places where people gather.
