Mrs. Pierce passed away Friday evening, December 21, 2018, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
She was born on Sunday, December 27, 1943 in Middleton and on Saturday, December 26, 1959, she was married to Mr. James E. Pierce, Sr. Mr. Pierce died on Thursday, October 9, 2014 after 54 years of marriage.
A member of New Union Baptist Church near Medon, she was retired owner of Pierce Drapery which she operated for many years. Mrs. Pierce had lived in various places throughout the country while her husband was serving in the US Navy, but the for the largest part of life, her home was in Hardeman County. In her leisure time, she enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. Mrs. Pierce is described by her family as a lady with a big heart and love for her family and others. She will be greatly missed by all her friends at Jackson Meadow in Jackson, TN.
She leaves two sons, James E. Pierce, Jr. (Jerita) of Lexington, TN and Charles A. Pierce (Lisa) of Ringgold, GA; two sisters, Mary Nell Walker (Hubert) of Erin, TN and Geraldine Nuckolls (Sammy) of Bolivar; one brother, Bobby Crowley of Middleton; nine grandchildren, Teresa Conway (Phillip), James E. Pierce, III, Lucas Pierce (Haley), Ethan Pierce, Nickie Kelly (Hank), Hailey Avent, Halie Hill (Mathew), Alexx Sterling and Addie Sterling; six great-grandchildren; and two daughters-in-law, Debora Dirmeyer (Phillip) of Middleton and Terrie Sterling (Bubba) of Medon.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her father, Robert Earl Crowley; her mother, Hazel Hanna Crowley Watkins; step-father, Malcolm Watkins; daughter, Gloria Pierce Avent; son, Raymond Todd Pierce; and two brothers, Willie and Hugh Crowley.
