THELMA HEMBY
Finger, TN: Thelma Lee Pickens Hemby age 75 passed away December 8, 2019 at Henderson Health & Rehabilitation Center.
She was born January 14, 1944 in Hardin County, the Burnt Church Community, the daughter of the late Buck B. and Linnie Wilkerson Pickens. She graduated from Hardin County High School in 1963. She married Tim Hemby in 1964. They made their home on the Old Finger Road since 1971. She was a member of the Estes Church of Christ.
She worked at the University Book Store at Freed-Hardeman for twenty-eight years and retired in 2006. She enjoyed gardening, working in flowers and cooking and also enjoyed auctions and yard sales.
She would go with her husband and grandchildren hunting to see and enjoy nature and wildlife. She and Tim enjoyed many trips to the river with Kenny and Judy Beene. She and Judy enjoyed fishing. They enjoyed traveling and enjoyed two trips to Yellow Stone with the Beenes.
Mrs. Hemby is survived by her husband, Tim Leon Hemby of Finger; a son, Timmy Lynn Hemby (Rhonda) of Finger; a daughter, Terri Lee DeWald (Ron) of Beech Bluff; four grandchildren, Rusty Wamble, Grant Hemby, Drew Hemby and Reed Wamble; six great grandchildren, Owen Wells, Dylan DeWald, Emma DeWald, Tenley Hemby, Ford Hemby and Connor Quarles; a brother, Grady Pickens and three sisters, Etta Morris, Margaret “Kate” Perry, and Nancy Webb all of Savannah.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Bill Pickens and William Pickens and two sisters, Nannie Sue Copeland and Estelle Connor.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Roy Sharp and Mark Blackwelder officiating. Burial will follow in Chester County Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Tuesday.
