Mr. Thomas Jefferson Culp III passed away on Thursday, September 6, 2018 in Bolivar, TN at the age of 103. He was born October 18, 1914 in Obion, TN, the son of the late Thomas Jefferson Culp Jr. and Catharina Eleanor Tonnemacher Culp.
Mr. Culp graduated from Martin High School, Martin, TN and earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Arkansas State College, Jonesboro, AR on May 19, 1947.
Mr. Thomas Culp was united in marriage with Miss Rachel Hanley of Tuckerman, AR, on September 10, 1936. She preceded him in death on July 8, 2001. Kerry Elizabeth Culp, their daughter passed away on August 5, 2016.
Mr. Culp proudly served in the Army of the United States in the Western Pacific with the 738th AAA Gun Battalion in active duty from June 3, 1943 through July 26, 1946. He earned an Army Commendation Ribbon, an AP Theater Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, and an American Theater Victory Medal.
Mr. Culp and his wife made their home in Whiteville, TN. He was the manager of Webb Deen and Company in Whiteville and was a mail carrier for twenty-seven years. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Whiteville, serving through the years on various committees. Mr. Culp was a good man who loved Whiteville! His involvement in civic organizations spanned many decades.
He is survived by a great-niece Mary Forrest Penix Winston (David) and a great-nephew Robert Deen Penix (Kristine), all of Tuckerman, AR, special friends Bernice and Richard Hamilton and Bettye Perry all of Whiteville, TN and his wonderful caregivers at Pine Meadows in Bolivar, TN.
