Tommy Emerson passed away on Sunday, January 16, 2022, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
He was born in Memphis on Wednesday, May 22, 1940, son of the late William Thomas Emerson and Carrie Frances Casey Emerson and lived in Bolivar, graduating from Central High School. He graduated from Arkansas State while serving in the US Air Force from 1958-62. After his wife retired, they moved back to Hardeman County in 2005. He was a retired coach/teacher with the Shelby County School System and enjoyed hunting, history, SEC football, traveling, especially with his wife, and doing yard work. His greatest goal and ambition, though, was to serve and work for the Lord. Mr. Emerson was a member of New Union Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, whom he married on April 21, 1986, Marcia Rusterholtz Emerson, of Bolivar; four sisters, Joyce Ray of Atlanta, GA, Joan Krohn of Jackson, TN, Sue Vincent of Florence, KY and Jane Jones of Suffolk, VA; and a brother, Dan Emerson of Nashville, TN and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Emerson.
