WARD HARRIS
Henderson; TN: James Ward Harris, age 88, passed away October 12, 2018 at his home.
He was born June 29, 1930 in the Deanburg Community, the son of the late Willie and Edith Hearn Harris. He served fifteen years in the U.S. Army as a bridge builder and served an additional twelve years in the Tennessee National Guard. He worked for over thirty years as a bridge foreman for Dement Construction. He married Imogene Smith in 1968. They made their home in Henderson.
He enjoyed working in the yard, building things for his grandchildren, who he loved to spend time with. He was very musically inclined, playing the piano, harmonica, guitar, and violin and enjoyed singing.
Mr. Harris is survived by his wife, Mary Imogene Smith Harris of Henderson; a stepson, Ricky Morrison of Henderson and a stepdaughter, Regina Earnest of Henderson; grandchildren, Bryan Plunk, Brandon Plunk, Dyllan Morrison, Dustin Morrison, Taylor Morrison and Makala Morrison and two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Frances Grimm of Jackson, Dorothy Bratcher of Jackson, Linda Blankenship of Decatur, AL and Ailiene Cain of Pinson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Tyler Morrison and four brothers, Ray Harris, Joe Harris, Junior Harris and Paul Harris.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Sunday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Ronnie Geary officiating. Burial will follow with Military Honors in Chester County Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue 4 PM until 7 PM Saturday and 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM Sunday.
