Mr. Baker passed away Saturday morning, July 28, 2018, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
He was born to the late Joe Marley and Daisy Marie McDaniel Baker in Bolivar on March 8, 1929 and lived most all of his life in Bolivar. Mr. Baker served his country during the Korean War in the US Army and on June 22, 1952 was wed to the former Laura Shearon, who survives.
He was a retired lumber inspector for DeSoto Hardwoods and was a graduate of the 13th class of the National Hardwood Lumber Inspection School. He was a past-president of the Hardeman County Fair Association. A member of Parrans Chapel Baptist Church, he enjoyed turkey and deer hunting and watching PBR Rodeos having attended the 2007 Finals in Las Vegas with his grandson, Bryan.
In addition to his wife of 66 years, he leaves his daughter, Karen Baker Moore and her husband, Glen, of Bolivar; his son, Michael C. Baker and his wife, Cindy, of Bolivar; a sister, Cora Jane Moore and her husband, James, of Hot Springs, AR; six grandchildren, Bryan Andrew Moore and wife, Christina, Brianna Grace Moore, Chasity M. Baker Abbott and husband, Logan, Faith E. Baker, Jake E. Baker and Georgia Ivey "Gigi" Baker; and one great-grandchild, Ava Baker Moore.
Other than his parents, Mr. Baker was preceded in death by three sisters, Elizabeth Sipes, Annie Grace Jernigan and Mary Lee DeBlieux; and three brothers, Joseph Daniel, James Allen and Charles "Jo Jo" Baker.
Memorials may be sent to the charity of the donor's choice.
