William L. "Bill" Vance, age 88, of Bolivar, departed this life Sunday afternoon, February 25, 2018 at Bolivar General Hospital.
The husband of Margaret Walton Vance, who survives, he was a retired accounting clerk with DuPont, working there 29 years until his retirement in 1985. He was born September 1, 1929, in Carroll County, Mississippi, son of the late James Benford Vance and Mable Andrews Vance and lived in Memphis prior to moving to Hardeman County in 1997. A veteran of the US Army, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and planting in his garden, but received his greatest joy from being around his family, whom he dearly loved. Mr. Vance was a member of Parrans Chapel Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, whom he married on June 4, 1955, survivors include two sons and their wives, Mike Vance (DeAnna) of Olive Branch, MS and Gregory W. Vance (Susan) of Hornsby; several nieces and nephews; and three great grandchildren, Madisen Vance, Jody Oglesby and Carter Oglesby. He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, William H. Vance in 2015; a granddaughter, Heather M. Vance in 2008; a great grandchild, Masen Oglesby; 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
