Woodrow Wilson "Woody" Nails, Jr.

June 6, 1943 — April 30, 2020

Mr. Woodrow Wilson "Woody" Nails, Jr., age 76, of Bolivar, passed from this life on Thursday morning, April 30, 2020, at Adamsville Healthcare and Rehabilitation.

He was the born on Sunday, June 6, 1943, in Tippah County, MS, the son of the late Woodrow Wilson Nails, Sr. and Hermie Virginia Bartlett Nails. Mr. Nails lived with his grandmother in Walnut until age 2 when his father returned from World War II and the family moved to Bolivar where he lived most all of his life. He married the former Bonnie Brown on Monday, July 29, 1963 and they were married for 36 years before her passing on Friday, March 31, 2000. Then, on Friday, January 19, 2001, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Jean Taylor, who survives. His church membership was at Bolivar First Baptist Church.

Mr. Nails began working at Pruett's Grocery in Bolivar at age 13. He continued there after the store became known as Maxwell's Big Star for a total of 32 years until a back injury forced him to change jobs. He then went to work as a courier for Merchants and Planters Bank for 11 years. Woody was a former President of the Bolivar Optimist Club.

In his leisure time, Woody enjoyed all kinds of sports including, fishing, baseball, basketball and golf. He also would spend many hours planting flowers, watching John Wayne westerns, Gone With The Wind, Fox News and UT Vols football. Woody enjoyed fixing small engines, screen doors, making wooden yard lights and long walks. Some of his favorite travel destinations were Orange Beach, AL or cruises to Cozumel and the Cayman Islands.

He leaves behind his wife, Carolyn Jean Nails of Bolivar; his daughter, Stephanie Colbeck of Nashville; his son, Brett Bartlett Nails (Dana) of Henderson; his sister, Virginia Ann Brown (Butch) of Bolivar; his two step-sons, Dennis Rowland (Twona) of Henderson and Greg Rowland (Angie) of Pinson; nine grandchildren, Nathan and Ethan Nails, Alexander, Bonnie, Victoria and Andrew Colbeck, Eric, Adam (Kayla) and Kyle Rowland; and one great-grandchild, Adalaya Baker.

The family would like to thank Aseracare Hospice and Adamsville Healthcare's Memory Care Unit for their care and support.

While visiting or attending services for Mr. Nails and to avoid spreading or contracting a respiratory illness, please consider the following guidelines:
* Maintain 6 feet between yourself and the next closest person;
* Refrain from hugs and handshakes;
* When you sneeze or cough, use your elbow to cover your nose and mouth;
* Wash your hands often;
* Avoid touching your face; and
* Minimize time spent in places where people gather.
