ZULA FAYE BENSON BAILEY
Henderson, TN; Zula Faye Benson Bailey, age 76, passed away at her home on June 16, 2019.
She was born on December 22, 1942 in Chester County, the daughter of the late Evans and Minnie Benson.
Zula is a 1960 graduate of Chester County High School where she played basketball. She is also a 1963 graduate of Baptist School of Nursing in Memphis. While in Memphis, she played for the Baptist School of Nursing and the Memphis Park Commission. On December 8, 1994, she was inducted into the Memphis Park Commission Sports Hall of Fame. A nurse for 42 years, Zula worked at St. Francis Hospital and Baptist Memorial in Memphis as well as Jackson Madison County General Hospital. She was an active and charter member of Grace Baptist Church in Henderson.
Zula is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Claude James Bailey, Sr., two loving children, Claude James Bailey Jr.(Christine), and Stacey Bailey Pruett (Bill), four grandchildren, Evans and Claudia Bailey, Baylie and Abbie Pruett, and one great grandson, Owen Lunn. She is survived by two sisters: Marie Benson, Mildred Bivens (Gerald), four brothers: J.W. Benson (Theresa), Johnny Benson (Gail), Jerry Benson (Sheila) and David Benson (Phyllis). She also leaves behind a very special nephew, Jackie Rushing (Marilyn), and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Evans Benson and Minnie Benson and several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Henderson-Crook Avenue Chapel on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at 11:00 AM with Reverend Eric Martin and Reverend Bobby Rushing officiating. Burial will follow in the Benson Family Cemetery at Center Point, TN.
The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
