Agnes McGee

December 31, 1930 — June 29, 2020

Agnes McGee was born December 31, 1930 in McNairy County, TN the daughter of the late Beal Colombus and Hattie Agnes Johnson Locke.

She was united in marriage to William Andrew McGee on February 12, 1949. Mr. McGee preceded her in death on November 26, 1998, following 49 years of marriage.

Mrs. McGee attended school in McNairy County. She retired from Brown Shoe Company in Selmer and was a volunteer for the Ladies' Auxiliary (Pink Ladies) at McNairy County General Hospital. She loved tending her flower garden and was a great cook-her spaghetti with sugar was a favorite family recipe. One of her weekly "must dos" was going to the beauty shop, whether she felt like it or not. She always liked to fix up-one of her favorite sayings was "You ought to take some pride in yourself!" She loved her Selmer First Christian Church family and was a faithful member of the Loyal Woman's Sunday School class.

Mrs. McGee departed this life on June 29, 2020 in Selmer, Tennessee at the age of 89 Years, 5 Months, 29 Days. She is survived by three daughters: Kathy Matlock and husband Sonny of Pickwick, TN, Debbie Shelton and husband Paul Michael of Selmer, TN, and Teresa Clayton of Selmer, TN; four grandchildren: Bill Gann and wife Lisa, Clay Shelton and wife Amanda, Damien Nethery and wife Meg, and Jacob Shelton and wife Lauren; nine great-grandchildren: Brittney, Andrew, Caroline, Allie, Georgia, Kate, Ellie, Haley, and Tyler; a sister, Jane Kirkman of Ripley, MS; a brother, Bobby Locke of Selmer, TN; and many extended family and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. McGee was preceded in death by four sisters: Dorothy Isbell, Grapel Isbell, LuLa Sanders, and Fern Qualls; four brothers: J. T. Locke, Carl Locke, Arlie Locke, and Harl Locke; and a son-in-law, Mike Clayton.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the nurses of Legacy Hospice for their care and concern during Mrs. McGee's illness.

Memorials may be made to Selmer First Christian Church.
