Agnes Lillian Newsom, 92, of Whiteville, passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2012 at Clare Bridge Memory Care in Statesville, NC.
Agnes was born on September 8, 1919 and was the daughter of J. H. and Hattie Cowan of Whiteville. Agnes was a homemaker and a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was a long time member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Whiteville. Agnes moved to Martin, TN in 1999 and then to North Carolina to live with her daughter, Ernestine.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Ernest Newsom; sister, Grace Newsom; brothers, O'Neal and Joseph Cowan and grandson, Tony Cryer.
Mrs. Newsom is survived by her daughter, Ernestine and husband, Jim Schuster of Mooresville, NC, and daughter, Ellen Faye Cryer of Benton, KY; three grandchildren, Mike Schuster of Paris, TN, Amy and husband Mike Stevenson of Ashburn, VA, and Pam Carson of Benton, KY; four great-grandchildren, Stephanie and husband, Joey Sparacio of La Center, KY, Rob Cryer of Litchfield, IL, Caroline Schuster of Martin, TN and Watson Stevenson of Ashburn, VA; and two great-great-grandchildren, Grayson and Nolan Sparacio of LaCenter, KY.
