Mr. Albert L. (Al) Luthe of Bolivar departed this life early Monday morning, July 23, 2012 at Methodist-Germantown Hospital at the age of 78 years, 7 months and 22 days.
He was born in Lake City, Illinois December 1, 1933 to the late Earl Edwin Luthe and Flossie Viola Walters Luthe. A 1952 graduate of Finley High School in Finley, Illinois, he attended Eastern Illinois University before joining the United States Navy. After serving his country, he went back to school to become a teacher, studying at Christian Brothers University and receiving his Bachelors of Science degree from Memphis State University. He later obtained his Masters from Mississippi State University. Mr. Luthe taught and coached several different sports in Fayette County schools as well as at Fayette Academy before retiring in 1999.
A few years after the death of his first wife, Carmie Simpkins Luthe, he was united in marriage to Amelia McAnally, who survives, June 24, 1995 and moved to Bolivar where he was a member of the Bolivar First United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Somerville Masonic Lodge No. 73.
Survivors include his wife, Amelia Luthe of Bolivar; a daughter, Laura Lynn Ridgway and husband Billy of Williston; two sons, Steve Luthe and wife Kim of Bolivar and David Luthe and wife Melissa of Searcy, Arkansas; two sisters, Helen Price of Decatur, Illinois and Betty Mathis of Savoy, Illinois; four grandchildren, Tiffany Luthe, Ben Hall, Maigyn Luthe and Jonathan Luthe; and two great-grandchildren, Bradley Hillman and Desireé Lynn Walton.
In addition to his parents and his first wife, who passed away June 16, 1990, he is preceded in death by three brothers, Austin Luthe, Halden Luthe and Raymond Luthe; and two sisters, Anna Mae Williamson and Bernadine Luthe.
