Albert Claude Richter Jr., age 94, of Savannah, Tennessee, passed away on July 27, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of love, faith, and treasured memories.He was born on November 15, 1931, in Tacoma, Washington. Al was the son of the late Albert Claude Richter Sr. and Thelma Mae Sanders Richter. 

He proudly served his country in the United States Naval Air Force for four years, carrying with him a quiet sense of honor and dedication that would define the way he lived the rest of his life.

On January 17, 1981, Al married the love of his life, Sharon Elizabeth Lay. For 45 years, they built a beautiful life together founded on faith, unwavering love, laughter, and the simple joys of spending time with one another. Together they created a home where family was always welcomed and love was freely given.Al lived 94 remarkable years on this earth, and every one of those years was marked by purpose. 

He was a devoted husband, a loving stepfather to Julie Winborn Franks and Jennifer Winborn Phillips, who lovingly called him "Dobby," and a cherished grandfather and great-grandfather whose love reached across generations.

He worked faithfully for many years at Packaging Corporation of America in Counce, Tennessee, until his retirement, providing for his family through hard work and quiet determination. But those who knew Al understood that his greatest work was never measured by a job title—it was measured by the lives he touched.

A faithful member of Wesley's Chapel Methodist Church, Al built his life on a foundation of faith in the Lord. His hands were rarely still. Gifted beyond measure, he could build, repair, create, and imagine almost anything. He was an accomplished woodworker, painter, craftsman, and even crocheted—a talent lovingly passed down from his mother. There was never a project too difficult or a challenge too great. Even at 94 years old, Al continued to amaze those around him with his determination, creativity, and willingness to learn something new.To know Al was to know kindness without expectation, strength without harshness, and generosity without recognition. 

He was the kind of man who quietly showed up, offered a helping hand, and made those around him feel safe, valued, and loved. His wisdom wasn't found in grand speeches but in the example he lived each day—with humility, patience, integrity, and grace.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Lay Richter; children, Julie Franks, Jennifer Phillips, Lee Ann Williams, and Steve Richter; grandchildren, Graham Franks, Mason Franks, Kaleb Trae Franks, Lauren Lott, Lacey Phillips, Bruce Wayne Williams, Steven Williams, and Katyen Tweedy; and great grandchildren, Hudson Franks, Hazel Franks, Holden Franks, Hattie Jo Lott, Beckham Lott, Noah Williams, Andrew Williams, and Elaine Williams.

In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by his siblings, Tommy Richter, William Richter, and Alta Richter Adams; granddaughter, Shelby Elizabeth Franks; and great granddaughter, Eden Williams.

A memorial service will be held on August 8, 2026 at 11:00 am at Wesley’s Chapel Methodist Church with Johnny Matlock officiating.

Visiting time will start at 10:00 am with the service starting at 11:00 am at Wesley’s Chapel Methodist Church.
