Alfred Payton King was born September 20, 1925 in McNairy County, TN the son of the late Payton McKinley King and Zettie Mae Goodrum King. He was united in marriage to Annie Rea Moore on November 9, 1946.
Mr. King was a member of Second Baptist Church and served as Deacon. He was a Godly-hardworking-quiet man who dearly loved his wife, children, and grandchildren. He provided for his family by logging and farming. He retired from Locke Brothers Lumber with over 30 years of service, he was affectionately nicknamed "Mose."
He served his country honorably in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Force specifically the Asiatic-Pacific campaign at Iwo Jima. He witnessed the raising of the flag atop Mount Suribachi. Like so many other World War II veterans, he talked very little of his service.
Mr. King was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, he will greatly missed by all who knew him.
Mr. King departed this life on December 30, 2016 in Bethel Springs, Tennessee at the age of 91 Years, 3 Months, 10 Days. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Annie Rea King of Bethel Springs, TN; five daughters, Norma Gean (King) Skelton of Stantonville, TN, Judy Ann Lyles of Selmer, TN, Wanda Lee Geary and husband Havert of Bethel Springs, TN, Janet Marie Miller and husband Tedford of Selmer, TN, Penelope Ramona Maxedon and husband Ronald of Bethel Springs, TN; a brother, Milfred A. King of Selmer, TN; ten grandchildren, Alfred D. Papadakis, Chip Skelton and wife Samantha, Burke Skelton and wife Leah, Steven J. Yurick, Missy (Yurick) Dickey, Heath A. Geary and wife Selena, Derek A. Miller and wife Amanda, Shaun P. Maxedon, Aden P. Maxedon, Heather A. Geary; nine great grandchildren, Naomi M. Yurick, B.J. Dickey, Tristan S. Howard, Katelyn M. Geary, Jacob A. Geary, Alexis N., Kylie M., and Noah A. Miller, Audrey R. Skelton; a sister-in-law, Ernestine King of McKenzie, TN; three brothers-in-law, Jim Swaffer of Little Rock, AR, John M. Moore and wife Janice E. of Selmer, TN and Samuel Moore and wife Tina of Providence, RI; and a host of extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. King was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles E. King, Kenneth M. King; three sisters, Ernestine Moore, Morine Haddock, Nadyne Swaffer.
