Allen S. (Swivel) Bates of Lutts, TN was born September 19, 1951 in Collinwood, Tennessee, the son of Bobbie Sue Bates Risner and the late James Ellis Risner. He was united in marriage to Teresa Jane Vickery on January 1, 1977. Mr. Bates was a maintenance worker and of the Protestant faith.



Mr. Bates departed this life on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Wayne Medical Center in Waynesboro, Tennessee at the age of 58 Years, 11 Months, 28 Days.



He is survived by his wife, Teresa Jane Vickery Bates; a son, Cory Bates both of Lutts, TN; his mother, Bobbie Sue Risner of Waynesboro, TN; three sisters, Brenda Staggs, Judy Garner, and Kim Risner all of Waynesboro, TN; nephews, Brandon Staggs, Daniel and Dustin Jones, Daken Maples; nieces, Holly Russ, Jennifer Jones; great-nieces, Bella Staggs, Madison Jones; special father-in-law, Ross Vickery of Iron City, TN.



In addition to his father, Mr. Bates was preceded in death by a nephew, Heath Staggs and mother-in-law, Evelyn Vickery.



Services will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Shackelford Funeral Directors Chapel in Collinwood, Tennessee, with Greg Eaton and James T. Turnbow officiating. Burial will follow in the Piney Grove Cemetery at Cypress Inn, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors of Wayne County directing. Pallbearers will be Brandon Staggs, Daniel Jones, Dustin Jones, Daken Maples, Jonathan Horton, Matthew Horton. Honorary pallbearers will be Bennie McFall, Phillip Long, Zach Horton, Jimmy Russ, Donnie Staggs. Visitation will be Friday, September 17, 2010 from 6 pm to 9 pm and Saturday, September 18, 2010 from 9 am to service time at the funeral home.
