Alvin Lee Griggs

Alvin Lee Griggs, age 78, of Iron City, TN, passed away on January 9, 2026. He was born on December 7, 1947, in Iron City, TN, the son of the late Calvin Lee and Bulah Mae Kilburn Griggs.

Alvin's life was marked by love and dedication, most notably to his beloved wife, Linda Lou Novem Griggs, whom he married on October 10, 1966. Their journey together was filled with cherished memories until her passing on June 27, 2025, a loss that left a profound impact on his heart. A hardworking man, Alvin devoted many years to his craft as a logger before finding a home for 20 years at Jim Beavers Sawmill, where he worked tirelessly as a forklift driver and lumber loader. His strong work ethic was matched only by his love for the simple pleasures in life—spending time outdoors, hunting, and fishing brought him immense joy and connected him with nature.

Alvin's legacy lives on through the fond memories shared by his family and friends, who will remember him not just for his work, but for his warmth, kindness, and spirit. He left this world surrounded by the love he cultivated throughout his life, and he will be dearly missed. 

He is survived by his son, Rickey Lee Griggs of Iron City, TN; granddaughter, Anna Marie Griggs of Waynesboro, TN; grandson, Timothy Lee Griggs (Amber) of Lawrenceburg, TN; brother, Willie Lee Griggs Sr. of Collinwood, TN; and great grandchildren, Brylie Cruce, Brynklie Cruce, Jeremiah Griggs, Jaybree Linville, Teslie Griggs, and Timber Griggs. 

In addition to his wife and parents, Alvin was preceded in death by his siblings, Ronald Griggs, Melvin Griggs, George Griggs, Harold Griggs, Marie Thompson, Pearl Collins, Irene Daniels, Dorothy Erby, and Hazel Griggs.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm service time at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Waynesboro, TN.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at 2:00 pm at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Waynesboro, TN with Paul Odle officiating. Burial will follow in Shields Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Josh Griggs, Lester Donald, Chris Cruce, Timothy Griggs, and Kevin Griggs.
