Ann Higginbottom Rafferty

December 26, 1938 — October 24, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ann Higginbottom Rafferty, 86, a cherished artist, dedicated mother and grandmother, devoted gardener, loyal friend, and curious collector. She passed away peacefully on October 24, 2025.

Born on December 26, 1938, in Selmer, Tennessee, Ann was a creative soul from an early age. Her passion for art was not just a hobby, but the way she saw the world—in colors, textures, and found objects waiting to be transformed. Her studio was a testament to her spirit, a vibrant space filled with half-finished paintings, jewelry, and enamelings that told stories of her inner life.

Ann's artistry extended beyond the canvas and into her beloved garden. With soil on her hands and the sun on her back, she nurtured a sanctuary of blooming roses, native perennials, and bountiful vegetables. The garden was a reflection of her patience and loving care, and a favorite gathering place for family and friends. It was here that she taught her children the simple magic of planting a seed and watching it grow.

As a mother and grandmother, Ann was the heart of her family. Her home was a haven of warmth, creativity, and unconditional love. She celebrated every holiday with a handmade touch and encouraged her children and grandchildren to find joy in creation. Her family will forever cherish the lessons she taught, the stories she told, and the quiet comfort of her presence.

A lifelong collector, Ann found beauty in the discarded and overlooked. Whether it was vintage teacups, art deco jewelry, or beautiful objects, she believed every find had a story. Her collections were not for display but for exploration, each piece a conversation starter and a memory keeper.

More than anything, Ann was a friend to all who knew her. She was called Violet by her friends and her favorite color was purple. Her genuine interest in others and her compassionate nature made her a confidante and a source of wisdom. Her memory will be treasured by the many lives she touched with her art, her generosity, and her gentle spirit.

Ann is survived by her son, Robert Higginbottom Il, daughter and son-in-law, Leigh and Kent Houston, daughter and son-in law, Julie and Matt Cronise, grandson, Andrew Higginbottom and granddaughter, Callie Cronise.
