Annie Estelle Banning passed away Thursday morning, June 9, 2016 at her home.
A native of Pocahontas, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Betty Mathis. After growing up in and around Pocahontas, she moved away from Hardeman County to live in Memphis. While there, she became a hairdresser and was a member of Eudora Baptist Church. Mrs. Banning would provide her services to members of the congregation on Wednesday evenings and, in return, donate earnings to mission work engaged in by the church. She continued to work until age 82.
Mrs. Banning returned to Hardeman County to live briefly in the Toone area. She was fond of sewing, gardening and giving of her means to those in need. Of particular joy to her family was her up-beat personality, especially her "laugh."
She leaves her daughter, Debra Johnson of Coldwater, MS; two sons, Jesse Meza of Knoxville and Larry Meza of Arlington, TN; four sisters, Jean Whizin and Louise Frazer of California, Lee Pace of Arlington and Faye Saucier of Ft. Smith, AR; four grandchildren, Christy Sparwasser, Cherry Hiens and Paul and Joseph Johnson; 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers: Troy, Horace and Dalton Mathis.
Memorials may be sent to the charity of the donor's choice.
