Barbara Ann Dunn Wood

February 9, 1941 — October 27, 2025

Counce, TN

Barbara Ann Dunn Wood was born on February 9, 1941, in Corinth, Mississippi, to the late Baxter and Edna Plaxico Dunn. On May 14, 1960, she married the love of her life, Charles Ray Wood, and together they built a life filled with laughter, faith, and love. They shared 59 beautiful years together before his passing in 2019. Their love was enduring and steadfast—a true testament to devotion, family, and a lifetime spent together.

Barbara was a caring and hardworking woman who devoted her life to serving others. She worked for the Hardin County Board of Education before joining the U.S. Postal Service, where she proudly served and retired as Postmaster. Whether serving her community, her church, or her family, she did everything with grace, warmth, and generosity. A proud graduate of Farmington High School, Barbara carried a strong work ethic and a giving heart throughout her life.

A faithful member of Center Hill Baptist Church, Barbara lived her faith daily—humble, gracious, and always ready to help. She was an amazingly talented seamstress and crocheter, pouring love into every stitch, creating clothes, costumes, and keepsakes for her family that will be cherished forever.

Her home was a place of welcome and warmth, always filled with laughter, love, and the comforting aromas of home-cooked meals. Friends and family knew there was always room at her table and a bed if they needed to stay. Her girls’ friends even knew where the hidden key to the back door was, and they knew they could come in anytime. Barbara loved a full house, and every visit was a joy to her.

She is survived by her two daughters, Donna Wood Kennedy and husband David of Selmer, TN, and Wendi Wood of Stantonville, TN; grandchildren, Kirby Kennedy and wife Brittany of Savannah, TN, Emily Kennedy Davis and husband Phillip of Glen, MS, AnnaLee Freeman of Florence, AL, and Bella and Ella Redmon of Stantonville, TN; great-grandchildren, Harbor, Hudson, Bain, Etta Kaye, and Quincy Sue; and her brothers, Bobby Joe, Wayne and wife Carolyn, and Donald Dunn, all of Corinth, MS.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Tommy and Billy Dunn, and sisters, Brenda Joyce Smith, Betty Sue Gray, Carolyn Jane Dunn, and Connie Dunn.

Barbara lived a life rooted in faith, family, and love. She gave her heart freely and leaves behind a legacy that will continue through her family and the countless lives she touched.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in her honor to the Center Hill Cemetery Fund, in care of Anita Hindmon, 70 Bass Lane, Savannah, TN 38372.
