Bennie David Miller was born on November 12, 1947, in Leapwood, Tennessee, the son of the late Leonard Charles and Mollie Jane Ganus Miller.
Ben grew up right here in Crump where he, his mother Mollie, brother Jim and sister Martha lived close to Mollie’s brother Hoss Ganus’ family. Both Ben and Jim had a special bond with those Ganus relatives who helped shape his early years. Ben also remained close with his Uncle Doc Miller from an early age and those lifelong family ties remained very important to him throughout his life.
Bennie honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After returning home, he met the love of his life, Mary Sue Berry, and the two were united in marriage on October 16, 1971. Together they built a life centered on family and hard work, and were blessed with their son, Timmy. Ben was a devoted husband and a strong, loving father who faithfully provided for his family.
Throughout his working years, Ben worked in construction and would often “travel off” for jobs. Over the years he was employed by Spectrum, Davis Mechanical, and the Tennessee Valley Authority before retiring.
When he wasn’t working, Ben loved the outdoors. He especially enjoyed bird hunting with cousin Buck Hopper and coon hunting whenever time allowed. Retirement gave him the opportunity to pursue other passions, including raising mules, and he could often be found visiting the local livestock auction with his friend Joe Dan Humphries. Ben and Sue also loved spending time together taking day trips, exploring the Highway 70 Yard Sale and stopping at antique stores along the way. They especially cherished traveling to Florida to visit his brother and sister-in-law or welcoming them and their family to Tennessee for visits.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Sue Miller, of Adamsville, Tennessee; brother, Jim Miller (Deborah) of Jay, Florida; nieces, Kristi Kimbley (Jason Ferguson) of Michie, Tennessee, and Charlene Caraway of Pace, Florida; his daughter-in-law, Sherry Heaton of Leapwood, Tennessee; nephew, Kieth Rose (Karen) of Purdy, Tennessee; special cousins, Charlotte Durham, Mike Ganus, Jeff Ganus, Greg Ganus, and Barry Ganus; four special great-nieces and great-nephews who were like grandchildren to him, Gwyneth Kimbley, Chloe Kimbley, Trey Kimbley, and Manning Ferguson; and his loving extended family, including great-nephew Kolton Caraway (Kayla) and their children, Wesley and Lindy, as well as great nephew Kayne Caraway, granddaughters by marriage, Whisper Jones (daughter Whitley Grace) of Savannah, Tennessee, and Trisha Buccieri (son Daylyn) of Milledgeville, Tennessee; and lots more family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Bennie was preceded in death by his beloved son, Timmy Miller; his sister, Martha Baxley; and his uncle and aunts, Doc and Emma Jo Miller of Leapwood and Hoss and Rosella Ganus of Adamsville.
