Bessie V. Pirtle Tubbs, 93, passed from this life Wednesday night, June 20, 2012 at her home in Whiteville.
Mrs. Tubbs was born February 13, 1919, to J. O. and Rosetta Thomas Owen in Chester County, Tennessee. A 1935 graduate of Bolivar Central High School, she was married to Alvin Pirtle, who died in March of 1975, and was a homemaker until her children were grown. She worked as a sales clerk at Goldsmith's and Penneys, and was a Pink Lady Volunteer at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. She was an active member at Malesus United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School. On May 26, 1979, she married Elmo Tubbs, who passed away in December of 1995. Past residences include Chester County, Bemis, Memphis (1941-1979), Malesus (1979-2005) and most recently Whiteville.
Survivors include a daughter, Ann Arbogast of Memphis; a son A. W. Pirtle and wife Brenda of Bolivar; 2 stepsons, Mike Tubbs and wife Bonnie of Malesus and Marty Tubbs and wife Sherry of Cleveland, MS; 8 grandchildren, Cheryl Trainum and husband Steve of Bolivar, Ron Pirtle and wife Dede of Brandon, MS, Jeremy Tubbs and wife Allison of Jackson and Becky Tubbs of Jackson, Win and Patrick Burford and Morgan and Chrissy Tubbs all of Cleveland, MS; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters Nell Rainey, Odean Collins, and Eldred Owen; and by a granddaughter Anna Nicole Pirtle.
