Betty Joe Curtis

July 5, 1934 — July 8, 2020

Betty Joe Curtis passed away peacefully from this life on July 8th. She was surrounded by her loving family during the last days of her life. Betty was born on July 5th 1934 in McNairy County Tennessee.
Betty married the love of her life John Bedford Curtis on June 7th 1949. They settled in Detroit Michigan where they raised their two children, Dave and Susie Curtis. Betty’s longest standing career outside of a homemaker was at Fisher Body. Betty belonged to First Assembly Church of God in Plant City, Florida.
Betty enjoyed her winters in Florida, spending time with her winter visitor club and all of her friends at Robinson Park and Jazzercise class. She always enjoyed her card games and bingo evenings with friends. Betty and her late husband, John, loved playing shuffleboard together and teaching their grandchildren how to play at a young age. Betty still traveled back to Michigan each year to spend time with her family, soaking up as much time as possible with her grandkids and great grandkids. Betty enjoyed staying active. She loved to cook for her family and friends and whether shopping or selling, she was an avid garage sale participant.
Betty was a devoted wife to the late John Bedford Curtis and mother to Dave (Lisa) Curtis and the late Susie (Larry) Terrell. She was a loving grandmother to Stacy (Leroy) Kilburn, Jason (Lisa) Curtis, David (Michelle Pusta) Curtis, Jon (Mickell) Curtis, and Charles Terrell. She is survived by great-grandchildren Brianna, Jacob, Emily, Jolene, Madelyn and Maverick Curtis, Michael and Brenden Kilburn, Shelby and Charles Terrell and great-great-grandchild Sophia Kilburn. She was preceded in death by siblings Earl, Benton and Vella Mae Hopkins, and Athlee Wardlow, Minnie Bell Jenkins and June Cleary, as well as her beloved dog Missy.
