Betty Jane (Smith) Daniel, 79, of Saulsbury, passed from this life Monday, September 7 at her home.
The widow of Jack C. Daniel, who died on December 24, 1998 after 47 years of marriage, she was a homemaker. She and her husband farmed and managed a large cattle operation south of Saulsbury known as 'Daniel Beefmaster'. Betty, born September 1, 1930 in Hickory Valley,was the daughter of Moorman Ola Ferguson Smith and the late James J. Smith. She was a local historian, a genealogist and an artist who particularly enjoyed painting china. She also served as Saulsbury City Treasurer.
She was a member of Grand Junction Baptist Church during her early years. After her marriage, Betty was an active member of the Saulsbury Baptist Church where she served as secretary, Sunday School teacher and long time member of the Faithful Workers Class.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Sally Sherrouse and Peter of Manchester, Tennessee; a son and his wife, Jim C. Daniel and Jo of Houston, Texas; her mother, Moorman Ola Ferguson Smith of Whiteville, Tenn.; three sisters and their husbands, Iva Carol Goddard and William of Little Rock, Ark., Gail Mayfield and Bill of Silerton, Tenn., and Charlotte Thoni and Jim of Germantown, Tenn.; and seven grandchildren, Sarah, Paul, Daniel, Samuel and Judah Sherrouse, Seth and Elizabeth Daniel. In addition to her husband and father, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jackie Daniel and a sister, Sarah Smith.
