Obituary

Betty Jean Wright Moore, age 92, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on November 25, 1933, Betty Jean was the youngest of five children born to William Rueben Wright and Lessie Dees Wright. She lived a life marked by faith, devotion to her family, and quiet strength. On August 25, 1948, she married the love of her life, James Ward Moore. Together they built a loving home and shared 68 years of marriage until his passing in 2016.

To nearly everyone who knew her, Betty Jean was simply "Nana." She wasn't just Nana to her grandchildren, she was Nana to their friends, neighbors, and so many others whose lives she touched. Her home was one where everyone was welcome, and no one ever left hungry. Whether she was serving pancakes, biscuits and chocolate gravy, green beans and cornbread, or banana pudding, every meal was made with love and became part of the memories her family will forever treasure. She had an incredible green thumb and found great joy in gardening. Some of her favorite flowers were hydrangeas, gladiolus, azalea, iris, and peonies. She also enjoyed traveling with Ward, creating cherished memories together through the years.

She leaves behind three children who will forever cherish her memory: her daughter, Patricia Sealy and husband, Jerry, of Florence, Alabama; her sons, Terry Moore and wife, Jannelle, of New Albany, Ohio, and Roger Moore and wife, Rose Marie, of Bethel Springs, Tennessee.

She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Jeremy Salter, husband of the late Jill Sealy Salter, and their children, Sealy and Marlo, of Rome, Georgia; Todd Sealy (Flavia) and their children, Juliana and Lucas, of Windsor, Connecticut; Michael Sealy (Ashley) and their children, Jane and Rado, of West Lafayette, Indiana; Carson Moore (Amber) and their children, Mason and Dalton, of Martin, Tennessee; Jason Moore (Rachel) and their children, Christian and Charlotte, of New Albany, Ohio; Amber Moore Monroe (Grant) and their children, Ada, Guy, and Ann, of Collierville, Tennessee; William Moore (Meredith) and their children, Mirabelle, Marina, Maisie, and Maverick, of Tampa, Florida; Bryce Moore (Shiloh), of Adamsville, Tennessee; and Wesley Moore, of Bethel Springs, Tennessee. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families.

A faithful Christian, Betty Jean attended Buena Vista Church in Bethel Springs and was formerly a member of First Baptist Church in Selmer. She worked at the Brown Shoe Factory until its closing in 1994, but her greatest calling was caring for her family and creating a home where everyone felt loved.

In her later years, Betty Jean was lovingly welcomed into the home of her son, Roger, and his wife, Rose, where they devoted themselves to her care with extraordinary love and compassion. The family would also like to express their heartfelt gratitude to her special niece, Patsy Case, whose daily phone calls brought her comfort and companionship, and to her devoted caregiver, Margaret Tull, whose kindness and compassionate care meant so much to her and her family.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Ward Moore; her cherished granddaughter, Jill Sealy Salter; her siblings, Manley Wright, Maggie Wright Nash, Edna Wright Smith, and Bonnie Wright Plunk; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

After losing her own mother at a young age, Betty Jean's greatest wish was simply to live long enough to see her children grow up. God blessed her with so much more. She watched her family grow through generations and had the joy of knowing many of her great-grandchildren. Her legacy is one of faith, unconditional love, hard work, and hospitality. Her flowers will continue to bloom, her recipes will continue to be shared around family tables, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she is at peace with her Savior and reunited with those who have gone before her.
