Obituary

With grateful hearts, we celebrate the homegoing of Betty Lou Johnson, who is now safely with Jesus as of June 18, 2026. Born on August 7, 1943, Betty lived 82 years; we rejoice in knowing that the faith that sustained her throughout her life has now become sight.

More than anything, Betty loved Jesus. Her relationship with Him was the foundation of her life, and she looked forward to the day she would be welcomed into His presence. We find peace knowing she is now safely with Jesus, healed and whole, where she longed to be.

Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William T. Johnson, and by her parents, Edmund and Verna Kaiser.

She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca S. Brock and husband Timothy; her son, Gregory T. Johnson and wife Shawn; her sisters, Nancy Pashby and Laurie Hardee; her six grandchildren, Emilee (Mike), Mary Blake, Libby (Kyle), Jessica, James, and Josh; and several nieces and nephews.

Before marriage, Betty was a flight attendant for Delta during an era when standards were meticulous—polished nails and high heels were part of the job. After marriage, she volunteered as church secretary at Brighton Christian Church in Brighton, Michigan. Her faith was reflected in the way she cared for others. She devoted herself to caring for her father-in-law during his final days and opened her heart to several teenage girls who needed encouragement, guidance, and someone to believe in them. A master gardener with a playful spirit, she helped Rebecca’s family cultivate their flowerbeds, even turning the water hose on Timothy. She found joy listening to her husband’s trumpet, her son’s original music, and sharing Sunday lunch with her daughter's family after church. Watching hockey and drinking chocolate milkshakes were her guilty pleasures.

As her family, we are grateful for the years we shared with her. Caring for her in her later years brought both challenges and blessings, and we are thankful for the opportunity to love her through every season. While we will miss her presence, we are comforted knowing her earthly struggles are over and that she is living in the presence of the Savior she loved so deeply.

Betty's life reminds us that God's faithfulness carries us through every season. We will miss her, remember her, and carry her memory with us always until we meet again.

We find great comfort in these words: "The high and lofty one who lives in eternity, the Holy One, says this: I live in the high and holy place with those whose spirits are contrite and humble." — Isaiah 57:15

A graveside service will be held on July 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Waynesboro, Tennessee. The service will be officiated by her son-in-law, U.S. Navy Chaplain James T. Brock.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Arden Cares Foundation Hospice at foundation@ardencares.com
