Betty Gail Surratt

Betty Gail Surratt was born July 4, 1940, in Milledgeville, TN, the beloved daughter of the late James Curtis and Ruby Sue Weatherington Newman. 

On September 7, 1957, Betty found her partner in life, Jamie Darrell Surratt, sharing a beautiful journey together until he preceded her in death on August 26, 2023. Their love and partnership were a cornerstone of her life, and she treasured every moment spent by his side.

Betty and Jamie worked diligently to create a welcoming haven for their community, operating a Mom and Pop grocery store that touched many lives. Beyond her entrepreneurial spirit, Betty had a passion for antiques and a keen eye for treasures, often sharing her finds with family and friends, and most recently, she delighted in discovering new gems on Temu. Her generous heart shone through as she brought joy to others, always ready with a gift to brighten someone’s day.

Raised in Milledgeville, TN, Betty and her family were members of the Milledgeville Methodist Church, where she found comfort and joy in her faith and fellowship.

Betty departed this life on December 4, 2024, in Mason, Tennessee, at the age of 84 years and 5 months. She leaves behind a loving family including her son, Lynn Surratt and wife Connie of Jackson, TN; her sister, Annette Story, and husband Billy of Lindale, TX; along with seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and a multitude of extended family and friends who will forever cherish her memory.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Surratt was preceded in death by a son, Anthony Surratt; a sister, Becky Newman; a grandson, Josh Surratt. 

Betty's legacy of love and kindness will continue to resonate in the hearts of those she touched, reminding us all to embrace life with generosity and a smile.
