Billy Don Bridges was born July 23, 1938 in Adamsville, TN the son of the late George Robert and Lois Vivian Carroll Bridges.
Mr. Bridges worked as a truck driver for Aqua Glass in Adamsville and later for AEC before retiring. He was known by many as "the can man," collecting cans and converting them to cash that he donated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital; he had raised almost $50,000.00 for the institution over the last decade. Following Alabama football, Atlanta Braves baseball, and traveling were some of Mr. Bridges' favorite pastimes; he had visited 48 states, many while driving for his former employers. He also enjoyed drinking coffee every morning with "the Breakfast Club" at Q-Mart, Jack's and Pettigrew Drug Store. Mr. Bridges served his country honorably in the United States Army and was a member of the Adamsville First Christian Church.
Mr. Bridges departed this life on September 6, 2020 in Memphis, Tennessee at the age of 82 Years, 1 Month, 14 Days. He is survived by a son, Tony Lee Bridges of Collierville, TN; two daughters, Pamela Denise Woodard and Teresa Gail Lovett and husband Jason, all of Haleyville, AL; seven grandchildren: Chloe Stonecipher and husband Patrick, Noah Bridges, Charity Brasher and husband Sage, Chasity Woodard, Justin Bridges, Dylan Scott, and Natasha Haley and husband Zach; 7 great-grandchildren; a sister, Anne Stricklin and husband M. J. of Savannah, TN; a brother, Joe Bridges and wife Kathi of Ripley, TN; and many extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Bridges was preceded in death by two sisters, Agnes Jones and Mary Doris Jones, and a brother, Robert Carroll Bridges.
