Mr. Billy Hammons, age 85 of Bolivar, Tennessee, passed from this life on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee.
Mr. Hammons was born in Bolivar on Saturday, November 19, 1933 to the late Louis and Lillie Hammons. He graduated from Bolivar Central High School with the Class of 1952 and worked as a farmer. On Friday, February 11, 1955, he was united in marriage to Jo Ann Davis Hammons, who survives.
Billy lived his entire life on the farm in Hardeman County. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bolivar and was a member of the Bolivar Optimist Club in years past. He was a "people person" who believed in John Deere tractors and never missed a "Hee Haw" Show. Some of his favorite pastimes included rabbit hunting, fishing, playing pool and rook, and watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Donna Avent of Bolivar, and Sandy Hammons of Bolivar; son, Mike Hammons (Theresa) of Bolivar; granddaughters, Melissa Hampton (Chris), Melinda Bryant (Jammy), Meranda Howell (Bradley Moore), and Hayley Black (James); and six great-grandchildren, Paige, Brianna, Colin, Ellie Cate, Kaleb and Samantha.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Wanda Joyce Hammons; two sisters, Lermond Baker and Johnnie Shearon; a brother, Louis Edmond Hammons, Jr.; and a son-in-law, Ricky Avent.
