Billy Paul Melson of Waynesboro, TN was born July 5, 1939 in Wayne Co., TN, the son of the late William Russell and Golden Gustavia Smith Melson. He was united in marriage to Edna Earlene Patterson on May 3, 1967 and she preceded him in death on May 11, 1999. He married Helen Pope Horton on July 1, 2001.



Mr. Melson was a retired machinist with Mueller Industries, was a United States Army veteran, and was a member of the Phillips Chapel Community Church in Waynesboro, Tennessee.



Mr. Melson departed this life suddenly on Friday, September 21, 2012 in Waynesboro, Tennessee at the age of 73 Years, 2 Months, 16 Days.



He is survived by his wife, Helen Pope Horton Melson of Waynesboro, TN; sons, David Wayne Melson and companion, Maria Bryant of Clifton, TN, Billy Waylon Melson, Sr. and wife, Sonya of Waynesboro, TN; step-daughters, Pamela Odle and husband, Jerry of Olive Hill, TN, Wonda Turnbo and husband, Manuel of Waynesboro, TN; grandchildren, Amanda, Tessia, Billy, Boston, and Hannah; step-grandchildren, Brandi, Jamie, Sabra, Tamara, Kelli; great-grandchild, Bella; step-great-grandchildren, Sallie, Katie, Will, Hiedi, Isiac, Haley, and Acelyn; brothers, Jimmy Melson and wife, Betty and Aubrey Melson and wife, Doreen all of Waynesboro, TN; nieces and nephews.



In addition to his parents and his first wife, the mother of his children, Mr. Melson was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Melson.



Services will be held on Sunday, September 23, 2012 at 3:30 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors Chapel, Waynesboro, Tennessee, with John Blackwell officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in Memorial Gardens, Waynesboro, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors, Wayne County, directing. Pallbearers will be Billy Thorn, Billy Melson, Jr., Harold Pope, Willard Pope, Randy Pope, and Kyle Pope.
