Bobby G. Vaughan

November 15, 1933 — November 22, 2016

Bobby Vaughan, age 83 of Bolivar, left this life and stepped confidently into eternity with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday November 22. A celebration service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, November 26 at Shackelford Funeral Directors chapel in Bolivar with Rev. John Jicka officiating. The family will receive friends from 10am until noon that morning, immediately prior to the service. Bobby passed away peacefully at the Tennessee State Veterans Home in Humboldt TN after living there for the past year.

Bobby was born November 15, 1933 in Bolivar to the late W. Roy and Mary Pulse Vaughan. He is preceded in death by his two brothers, Billy, and Joseph Vaughan. His two sisters, Sara Vaughan Gary of Jonesboro AR and Brenda Vaughan Jackson of Bolivar, survive.

Bobby was married for almost 55 years to his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Virginia “Jimmie” Vaughan, who preceded him in death 5 years ago. A part of his heart died along with her when she passed, and he missed her greatly until his final day.

Bobby was a member of First Baptist Church Bolivar, and served as a Deacon and a Sunday school teacher there for many years. He was a 1951 graduate of Bolivar Central High School, and a graduate of Memphis State University. Bobby served his country in the US Air Force for 4 years, with a large portion of that time spent monitoring Soviet military movements with his Intelligence unit in what was then West Germany. He retired in 1990 from the US District Courts as a Federal Probation and Parole officer after nearly 25 years of service. Bobby had a genuine love for people, and he was able to help many get back on track and re-enter society over the course of his career.

Bobby is survived by his two sons, Richard (wife Juli) of Houston, TX, and Kevin (wife Johnna) of Collierville. His 5 grandchildren were his pride and joy: Blake of Midland TX, Matthew and Michael from Houston, Alexandra from Memphis, and Grayson from Collierville. He loved his entire family very deeply, and taught them to live by the credo that your word is your bond. His life verse was Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”.

The family will forever be deeply indebted to the staff and residents of the Tennessee State Veterans Home in Humboldt for their excellent care, compassion and love shown to Bobby during his time there. He made some good friends during his one year stay there.

His family knows he’s already heard “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Our loss is heaven’s gain. The family requests that any memorials or gifts in his memory be directed to the Tennessee State Veterans Home, 2865 E. Main St, Humboldt TN 38343, or First Baptist Church, 826 W. Market St, Bolivar TN 38008.
