Bobby Ray Grooms

Bobby Ray Grooms was born on November 18, 1935 in Perry County, Tennessee, the son of the late Alvin R. and Gertie Ellen Kimbel Grooms.

On December 5, 1975, he was united in marriage to Judy Johnson, who preceded her husband in death on January 7, 2018.

Mr. Grooms honorably served his country in the United States Air Force for 4 years. He worked as a plant manager at HIS in Saltillo, Tennessee beginning in the 1960s until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of the County Commission for Hardin County from 1972-1998. Bobby also served as the Mayor of Saltillo from 2002-2004 and was dearly loved by everyone in the community. He enjoyed going hunting, dancing, and watching westerns.

Bobby Ray Grooms departed this life on Sunday, December 10, 2023 in Saltillo, Tennessee at the age of 88 years and 22 days.

He is survived by his daughter, Karla Bunney and her husband David of Humboldt, Tennessee; sister, Helen Eason and her husband Charles Junior of Saltillo, Tennessee; brother, Billy Grooms and his wife Margaret of Saltillo, Tennessee; grandchildren, Wendy Briley, Rosanna Simpson, Samantha Simpson, Kyle Kelly, Kelly Blankenship, Alex Whalley, Austin Bunney, and Brinlee Bunney; great grandchildren, Sidney Briley, Kylee Kelly, Isaac Staggs, and Hayden Simpson; and great great grandchild, Hudson Tacker.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin R. Grooms and Gertie Ellen Kimbel Grooms; wife, Judy Grooms; daughter, Daphne Kay Simpson; son, Dennis Joe Kelly; twin sister, Betty Mitchell; brothers, Kenneth Grooms and Kelton Grooms; sister, Ellen Story; and great grandchild, Breelin Blankenship.
