Bobby Wallace Holmes was born July 26, 1931 in Hardeman County, TN, the son of the late William Talmadge Holmes and Mary Alma Parks Holmes. He departed this life on January 7, 2023 in Corinth, Mississippi at the age of 91 Years, 5 Months, 12 Days.
He was united in marriage to Bobbie Jean Emmons on March 26, 1949. They were married 64 years when Mrs. Holmes preceded him in death on June 1, 2013. He was a member of the Union Grove United Methodist Church. He was an active member of the church and served on the Official Board. For many years he and his sister Shirley enjoyed singing together in the Union Grove Quartet along with their spouses. He will be especially remembered for his love of singing bass. Mr. Holmes was also an elected member of the McNairy County Board of Education where he proudly served three terms. He was known by many as a part of the Holmes Brothers Car Dealership, and he made many friends during the years he and his brother, Farris, operated that business. He was an avid fisherman. He and Farris spent many hours on Pickwick Lake fishing with family and lifelong friends.
He is survived by his daughter Diane Fowler (Mike) of Savannah, TN, a son, Wes Holmes (Dana) of Selmer, TN; seven grandchildren, Jonathan Fowler, Sara Williams Sharp, Jeanne Anne Love, Hunter Fowler, Andrew Holmes, Zack Holmes, Maggie Holmes Howie: seven great grand children; Brayden Fowler, Jack Fowler, Tucker Love, Mack Holmes, Shaw Fowler, Collins Holmes, Nora Love; one sister, Shirley Cupples, one brother, Farris Holmes; and other friends and relatives.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Holmes was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Holmes Williams, one brother, Edward Holmes, two sisters, Faye Glover and Wilma Henson.
