Bobby Steward
US Army Special Forces MSG (ret) Bobby Steward, 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by friends and family at his home in Deanburg TN that he shared with his bride, Carol, on 19-DEC-2022. Bobby was a decorated veteran who served in the Vietnam War and spent another 12 years in active duty, with a total of 22 years of active duty to his Country.
Bobby was born on 28-JUN-1936 in Memphis TN to his parents Vergie Coffee and William Steward. As a tractor-trailer driver, 21, Bobby met Carol in Upstate New York as he worked with her brothers. He chose her from the family of 10.
When he was just 22, Bobby decided he wanted to join the US Army and was stationed at Ft. Jackson, South Carolina. After three (3) years in Regular Army, he was discharged and soon found civilian life not for his liking so he re-enlisted. He studied auto body repair in Aberdeen Proving Grounds MD. Very soon after, he decided that it was not exciting enough, so he applied to Special Forces Training. Bobby would go on to serve in the Vietnam War with his fellow Green Berets.
After Vietnam, he returned to Ft. Bragg NC (1966-1968), then on to Thailand (1968-1969), Ft. Devens MA (1969-1973), Panama Canal Zone (1973-1977), and completed his military career at Arizona State University and surrounding community colleges in 1981.
Other military activities that followed are still considered CLASSIFIED.
After military retirement, using his military benefits, Bobby attended Air Conditioning School to be certified as an HVAC technician in Arizona. He then moved the family and business to Pigeon Forge TN and then on to Helena, AR. From there, his entrepreneurial passion included videography, photography, and other activities. From his time in the Army, Bobby loved to travel so he and Carol enjoyed RV-ing all over the country, to include spending a lot of time in Alaska.
