BURBON HAGGARD
Burbon Polk Haggard, 85, of Savannah, died February 3, 2010 at Hardin Home Nursing Home, where she had resided for the past ten years. Hardin Home became her home where she made many friends and received tender loving care and excellent medical care.
She was born on July 4, 1924 in Hardin County, daughter of the late Nathan Perry Polk and Gladys McCallum Polk. She was united in marriage on November 23, 1941 to Herschel F. Haggard, who preceded her in death May, 2003.
Mrs. Haggard worked for thirty seven years in garment factories: at Dillion Manufacturing Company, Kay Windsor, Angelica, and as a supervisor at Savannah Manufacturing Company before her retirement. Many of her co-workers referred to her as the "Best Friend" they ever had, because of her caring, kind personality. She loved children and children were drawn to her. Some of the children in her neighborhood referred to her as their "second mother".
Mrs. Haggard is survived by her son, Tommy F. Haggard, of Savannah, Tennessee and her daughter, Shirley Williams and her husband Dan of Bolton, Massachusetts. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Brandon Haggard of Bethel Springs, Tennessee, Brandy Haggard of Bethel Springs, Tennessee and Jason Hamilton of Newton, Massachusetts, and three great-grandchildren, Madison Haggard, Karly Haggard and Nate Hamilton. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Holly Farris Polk and James K. Polk.
