Burton Elbern McKee, 91, of Middleton, departed this earthly life Friday afternoon, July 26, 2019 at McNairy County Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Selmer.
A native of Hardeman County, he was born October 1, 1927 to the late Lawrence and Nannie Earl Bryant McKee and lived his life here in the county. He was known as a farmer, but also had worked measuring cotton for the ASCS and as a boiler technician/maintenance with the Tannery for 28 years. He married the former Etta Sue Ray on December 25, 1949 and they were married almost 56 years at the time of her death in November of 2005. He was valedictorian of the 1946 graduating class of Middleton High School and a lifetime member of Hebron Baptist Church. His family states that he enjoyed messin' with his grandkids and great grandkids, loved his dogs and all of his family and was their 'rock'.
Survivors include 5 daughters, Janice Mynatt (David) of Bolivar, Patricia Griffin (Roger) of Selmer, Ruth Mynatt (Larry), Linda Lance (Steven) and Betty Wing (Michael), all of Bolivar; two sons, Burton Wayne McKee (Carolyn) and Milton McKee (Ann), both of Middleton; two brothers, William "Bill" McKee of Middleton and Thomas McKee of Jackson; 17 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. In addition to his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Daisy Cox and a brother, James Earl McKee. Memorial contributions in his name may be sent to the Hebron Cemetery Fund.
