Carlton W. Estes was born February 2, 1924 in Mayfied, Kentucky, the son of the late Webster Blackmon and Berta Lou Warmath Estes. Mr. Estes departed this life Sunday, December 14, 2008 at Wayne Medical Center in Waynesboro, Tennessee at the age of 84 Years, 10 Months, 12 Days. Mr. Estes served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a Aviation Electrican serving in Guam. After his discharge from the Army Air Corps, he served many years in the Army Reserves retiring as a major. He also was instrumental in organizing the local National Guard Unit in Waynesboro. He was a Tennessee State Trooper and served as chief of police in Waynesboro. Mr. Estes owned and operated several restuarants in Waynesboro and also worked at the post office. Mr. Estes was a Methodist, a member of the American Legion, Veteran of Foreign Wars, and a member of Retired Officers Association.
He is survived by two sons, William Estes and wife Kathy of Winter Park, Fl, John Estes and wife Julie of Waynesboro, TN; two daughters, Betty (Estes) Jones of Greenville, TX, and Babs (Estes) Mangubat and husband Jim of Waynesboro, TN, step-daughter, Shelia Crosslin of Waynesboro, TN;
7 grandchildren, 1 step grandson, and 4 great grandchildren
Memorial Services will be held Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at 7:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Chapel in Waynesboro, Tennessee, with Marvin Champion officiating. His remains were cremated. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Wayne County is in charge of arrangements.
