Carole "Nana" South was born on September 15, 1946, in Decatur County, TN, to the late Elmer and Maybell Oliver Melton. On December 23, 1975, she entered into marriage with Joe South.
Mrs. South was a dedicated member of the Counce United Pentecostal Church. She worked diligently at Garan's Factory, highlighting her commitment and work ethic. Known for her generous spirit, Carole had a heart of gold and a giving nature that touched everyone she encountered. She was a woman of strong convictions, never hesitant to express her opinions when something mattered to her. Her love knew no bounds, particularly for children, who were the joy of her life. She embraced her role as a mother figure, extending her nurturing care not only to her own siblings but to all who sought her comforting presence.
In her leisure time, Nana enjoyed watching her favorite television shows, including Golden Girls, Wheel of Fortune, Judge Judy, and Seinfeld. She found solace and joy in game shows and crossword puzzles. Her evenings were made special by her soulmate, Pops, who lovingly prepared her favorite treats—a grape popsicle and peanut butter with crackers—while ensuring her comfort by turning down her covers every night. During her younger years, Carole cherished trips to Kentucky and the thrill of yard sales, relishing the experience of shopping. Above all, her faith in God was unwavering, evident in her devotion to prayer and reading the Bible, with Psalms 23 holding a special place in her heart.
On April 28, 2024, at the age of 77 years, 7 months, and 13 days, Mrs. South peacefully departed this life in Michie, Tennessee. While her absence leaves a void in our lives, we find comfort in knowing that she now resides in God's eternal kingdom, eagerly awaiting a joyous reunion with her loved ones. She is survived by her devoted husband Joe South of Michie, TN; loving daughters Michelle Price (Danny) and Kimberly Lambert (Ryan); cherished grandchildren Jennifer Price, Christy Arnold (Brant), Jessica Wheeler, John Price, Asher Price, Austin Lambert, Bentley Lambert, and Jackson; adored great-grandsons Lane, Hunter, Austin, Jesse, Landon, Caden, JC, and Cullen; beloved great-granddaughters Aliyah, Mikala, Cece, Emily, Madelyn, and Dani; and one precious great-great-grandson, Waylon.
