CAROLYN RUTH GOBER was born on April 9, 1951 near Ruleville in Sunflower County, Mississippi. She was the daughter of the late William Noonan Gober and Raney Lee Belle Curtis Gober McAnally. Her paternal grandparents were James Harvey "Harve" Gober Sr., and Mary Emmaline "Amy" Floyd Gober of Tishomingo County, Mississippi; her maternal grandparents were Johnston Albert Curtis and Josie Smith Curtis of Hardin County, Tennessee. She was reared in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois, where she attended Arnold Grammar School and Louisa May Alcott Grammar School. In 1965 she moved with her mother and step-father Harmon 0. "Mac" McAnally, to Counce, Tennessee. She was a 1969 graduate of Pickwick Southside School where she was awarded a full math scholarship to Memphis State University, but she married instead. The marriage ended in divorce and she legally retained the use of her maiden name.
In 1974, after suffering a massive subarachnoid hemorrhage, she was disabled for seven years. Ms. Gober later attended the School of Cosmetology in Savannah, Tennessee and had her own beauty shop in Counce. She then worked at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center while she earned a certificate in microcomputer accounting from Draughan's Business College in Jackson, Mississippi. After working as an accountant and earning her cosmetology instructor's license, she was the director of Shirley Little School of Hair Design in Jackson, Mississippi until she became permanently disabled. Ms. Gober was an avid genealogy buff and researcher of her mother's Curtis family history. She was a former member of the Tishomingo County Historical and Genealogical Society, the Alcorn County Genealogical Society, and she served on the Family History Book Committee which published "Families of Alcorn County, Mississippi, Volume II," in 1998. In 1980, she became a Communicant of St. Columb's Episcopal Church in Jackson, Mississippi, where she sang in the choir and was a member of Daughters of the King. She has been a Communicant of St. Paul 's Episcopal Church in Corinth, Mississippi for many years. Ms. Gober departed this life on July 27, 2017 in Selmer, Tennessee at the age of 66 years, 3 months, 18 days. She was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather; brothers, William Thomas "W.T." Gober and Bobby Joe Gober; sisters, Clara Gober Tyson May and Margie Gober Jenkins. She is survived by her sister, Bonnie Gober Crocker of Pearl, Mississippi; her beloved aunt, Rudean Curtis Seaton of Savannah, Tennessee; and her beloved great-nephew and godson, Ryan Lewis McDaniel, Olive Branch, Mississippi. She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and their children to whom she was known as "Tata".
