Today we celebrate the life of Cassie Nell Leatherwood and reflect upon a life well lived. To express a profound sense of loss we all feel for a woman who touched our lives in ways words can hardly express! Cassie Nell was not just a friend; she was a constant source of light and warmth in our lives, a force of nature whose energy and spirit were as boundless as her capacity to love.
Cassie began this life on February 9, 1934, the daughter of the late Isaac Cummings and Vetie Perkins Cummings. She was united in marriage to I. H. Leatherwood on August 5, 1950. Mr. Leatherwood preceded her in death on April 14, 2010. She was a member of New Bethel Presbyterian Church of Selmer until moving to MS. She was a member of Payne's Chapel Community Church in Ripley, MS.
Mrs. Leatherwood departed this life on May 4, 2024 in Ripley, Mississippi at the age of 90 Years, 2 Months, 25 Days.
She is survived by a son, Anthony Quinn Leatherwood and wife Debbie of Ripley, MS; 9 Grandchildren, 29 Great Grandchildren, 8 Great Great Grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents Mrs. Leatherwood was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Kay Brock and husband Arlin Wayne; sisters: Betty Sue Wolfe, Willie Ruth Allison, JoAnn Cummings; a brother, Johnny Cummings; half sisters: Retie Plunk, Gurtie May Carroll and Jewel Phillips.
