Cecil Smith of Waynesboro was born October 30, 1919 in Collinwood, TN the son of the late William Louis and Myrtle Fitchpatrick Smith. Mr. Smith died on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Wayne Medical Center in Waynesboro, Tennessee at the age of 94 Years, 8 Months, 19 Days. In October 1941 he joined the U.S. Army serving just over 4 years being honorably discharged in November 1945 after reaching the rank of sergeant . During this time he served in the European Theatre receiving numerous awards including the World War II Victory medal. After leaving military service he had many occupations but was best known for being a small business owner selling parts in the auto industry. He loved his church, the First United Methodist Church in Waynesboro where he served as Sunday school teacher and served in several committies in the church. Also he was a member of Waynesboro Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife Frances Devers Smith of Waynesboro, TN,
two sons, Gary Smith and wife Barbara and Joe Smith and wife Wanda all of Hendersonville, TN, a daughter, Carol Nichols and husband Steve of Gallatin, TN, six grandchildren, Curtis Smith, Tina Neal, Tonya Trout, Tiffany Gambrell, Whitney Sewell, and Alyssa Nichols, five great grandchildren, Morgan Neal, Makenzie Neal, Faith Gambrell, Hope Gambrell, and Jackson Sewell, two brothers, Clyde Smith of Toledo, OH and Maynard (Mossy) Smith of Waynesboro, TN, two sisters, Mary Nell Pierce of Waynesboro, TN and Pearl Wallace of Waynesboro, TN, several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Smith, three brothers, Louis Allen Smith, Guy Smith, and Walter Smith, and a sister, Ruby Keeton.
Services will be Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors Chapel in Waynesboro, Tennessee, with Kevin Marston and Marvin Champion officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Waynesboro Memorial Gardens with Shackelford Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
