Charles Joe Joe Baker

Mr. Charles Joe Joe Baker, age 88, of Scotts Hill, departed this life Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

The husband of Ruth Vaughan Baker, who survives, he was a retired Baptist minister, having preached the gospel for 55 years in Hardeman, McNairy and Madison Counties and Sebring, Florida, and was instrumental in the organization of 3 different churches. He was born September 26, 1926, in Hardeman County, son of the late Joe Marley and Daisy Marie McDaniel Baker and lived in Hardeman County most of his life. He lived about 10 years in Florida and in Scotts Hill for about 8 years. He served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II and was a lifetime member of the American Legion. He worked as a United States Mail Carrier for the US Postal Service in Bolivar and was Baptist in belief.

In addition to his wife, whom he married on December 28, 1945, survivors include two daughters, Janet Baker Lambert (John-deceased) of Silerton and Deborah Baker Haberski (Steve) of Imlay City, MI; a son, Joed Anthony Baker of Scotts Hill; a sister, Cora Jane Moore (James) of Hot Springs, AR; a brother, Wilbur Baker (Laura) of Bolivar; eight grandchildren, Carmen Camille Lambert Claybrook (Stephen), Stephanie Elaine Haberski Abke (Dave), Derek Stephen Haberski(Tonya), Charles Lewis Haberski (Bethany), Kirk Alan Haberski (Sophia), Joed Anthony Baker, II (Chandis), Jonathan William Baker (Kim) and James Hamilton Baker (Brittany); and seven great grandchildren, Darby Dean YuanHai Claybrook, Henry Stephen FuLi Claybrook, Dakota Anthony Baker, Riley Nicole Abke, Nicholas Richard Abke, Izabella Mazie Haberski and Jazmine Sierra Haberski. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Daniel and James Allen Baker and three sisters, Annie Grace Jernigan, Mary Lee DeBlieux and Elizabeth Sipes.

The family requests memorial donations in Mr. Baker's name be made to the American Legion, the Wounded Warrior Project, the Ebenezer Cemetery Fund or the American Cancer Society.
