Charles David Berry

Charles David Berry, aged 93, of Bartlett, TN, passed away on December 14, 2025 in Bartlett, TN. He was born in Cypress Inn, TN to the late Ode and Emma Lee Stults Berry. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Frances Odean Wilson Berry, his brothers Earnest Berry and Wayford Berry, his sisters Ola Berry, Thelma Berry, Orene Berry Dickey, and Mauveline Berry Hailey.
Charles graduated from Collinwood High School and attended the University of Tennessee at Martin where he studied engineering. He served in the U.S. Army with the 526th Engineer Company in Korea. In 1963, he began his career with the Memphis District, U. S. Army Corps of Engineers where he worked as a civil engineering technician in the Design Branch’s Levee and Drainage Section until his retirement in 1994. He was an expert on flood control works within the St. Francis River and Tributaries Project. During his career he volunteered to work on numerous hurricane disaster relief missions including debris removal on the Gulf Coast and building sand dune levees on the East Coast. He enjoyed his career and was a dedicated civil servant. In his retirement years, he enjoyed whittling, writing poetry, reading Civil War history, and gardening. He was a loving and dedicated husband to his wife, Odean, and a faithful caregiver to her in her final years. His faith in God was a guiding light in his life and he was a cherished member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Bethel Springs, TN.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan Berry Ervin (Chris) of Cramerton, NC; son, Jeff Berry (Jan) of Bartlett, TN; grandchildren, Courtney Ervin Fuchs (Florian), Scott Ervin (Ashley), Sarah Berry Caldwell (Raymond), Emily Berry Tristeza (Stanley); and great-grandchildren, Micah Fuchs, Eli Fuchs, Bennett Caldwell, and Bo Caldwell.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 20th at 1:00 PM at Jackson Cemetery in Cypress Inn, TN with Rev. Allen Berry officiating and Shackelford Funeral Directors assisting the family.
