Charles Clinton Crow

Charles Clinton Crow departed this life on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at the age of 75 years, 5 months and 24 days. He was born on September 6, 1941, in Water Valley, Mississippi, the son of Price Alexander Crow, Sr. and Jimmie Tubbs Crow, and was the youngest of eight children.

Charles grew up in the Mississippi Delta and graduated from West Tallahatchie High School in Webb, Mississippi in 1960. Immediately upon graduation, he joined the US Navy where he served aboard the USS Pine Island Seaplane Tender and at the Naval Air Facility in Atsugi, Japan during the Vietnam War. After discharge he attended Northwest Mississippi Junior College. During the summer of 1965 he met his love, Bettye Beckham and they were united in marriage on February 19, 1966.

Charles began work with the Tennessee Valley Authority in 1979 at the Yellow Creek Nuclear Site and then moved to the Power Service Center and Nuclear Waste Facility in Muscle Shoals, Alabama where he spent 30 years, retiring in 2009. He loved the outdoors, spending endless hours working and perfecting his yard and farm. He was an avid lover of animals of all kinds but he especially enjoyed raising goats. He took great pride in his home and farm and hosted many family and friend gatherings there. His love for his family and friends was apparent in every aspect of his life. On September 26, 2004, Charles was ordained a deacon at Double Springs Baptist Church. He has been a member of Hopewell Baptist Church since 2008. He was a Master Mason and member of the Savannah Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Bettye Beckham Crow of Savannah, Tennessee; three daughters, Cindy Clayton and husband Ernie, Charla Townley and husband Tim, and Natalie Hunt. Seven grandchildren, Taylor Clayton, Trey Clayton, Chase Townley, Claire Townley, Cooper Townley, Harper Hunt and Sadie Hunt all of Savannah; one sister, Yvonne Williams and husband Johnny of Cedar Hill, Tennessee and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Mable Gillen, Patsy Ray, and Janie Bruister and brothers, Leslie Crow, Thomas Crow and Price Alexander Crow, Jr.

Charles was dearly loved by his entire family. His legacy of love, gentleness and endless devotion to his family will forever be a light to his children and grandchildren.
