Charles William Edwards

Charles W. Edwards was born April 26, 1924 in Albertville, AL, the son of the late Horace Preston and Bessie Bell Miller Edwards. Mr. Edwards departed this life on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 94 years, 7 months, 6 days. He was married to Blanche Cole on April 26, 1953. Mr. Edwards was a member of Green River Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and taught Sunday School and worked with RA'S. He also served the American Legion Post 130 and Woodmen of the World. Mr. Edwards, a veteran of World War II, served in the U.S. Army Air Force where he was a squadron pilot aboard a trooper carrier. Mr. Edwards had the ability to build or repair anything, but especially enjoyed keeping a beautiful yard.

He is survived by his wife, Blanche Cole Edwards of Waynesboro, TN, sister, Sue Jones of Birmingham, AL, special friends, Kim Pettus McClaren (Ron), Lawrenceburg, TN, Mr. and Mrs Doug Gobbell and Mr. and Mrs. Doug Sanders all of Waynesboro, TN. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Imogene Stutts.

Services will be Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Shackelford Funeral Directors Chapel in Waynesboro, Tennessee with David Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Waynesboro Memorial Gardens with Shackelford Funeral Directors of Wayne County directing. Pallbearers will be Doug Sanders, Doug Gobbell, Eddie Berry, Paul Heard, Kerry Franks, and David Jones, honorary pallbearers are Floyd (Babe) Staggs and Dewey Harper. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:30 PM until 8:00 PM and Wednesday from 8:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers family requests memorial donations may be given to Green River Baptist Church Children's Ministry.
