Charles David Jarnagin, Sr., age 86, died peacefully on September 8, 2020, surrounded by family.
Charles was born August 21, 1934 in Corinth, Mississippi to Luther Edward and Timey Lucinda Wright Jarnagin. He was raised in Ramer, Tennessee, and graduated from Ramer High School.
Charles married his wife of sixty-six years, Dorthy Jo Kennedy Jarnagin, in Corinth, Mississippi in 1954. Charles and Dorthy Jo made their home in Ramer and Selmer before settling in Eastview, Tennessee. During his life, Charles worked for A.B. Scott in Selmer, Henderson Appliance Store, and retired after many years with Synergy Gas.
Charles was the father of Sherry Jo Jarnagin Smith (Kenny) of Humboldt, Charlotte Kaye Jarnagin Warren (Eddy) of Selmer, and Charles David Jarnagin, Jr. (Faye) also of Selmer.
He was the grandfather of Eddy Gene Warren, Jr. of Selmer, Jamie Warren Lancaster (Sandy) of Guys, Jeanie Warren of Ramer, Terri Smith Crider (Chris) of Jackson, and Sonja Dixon (Greg) of Walnut, Mississippi.
Charles was the great-grandfather to Hunter Warren Justice of Ramer, Jack Charles Crider and Mary Margaret Crider of Jackson, Archer Chisum Lancaster and Eowyn Leigh Lancaster of Guys, and Savannah Grace Dixon and Dani Paige Dixon of Walnut Mississippi. Charles was also the great-great grandfather to Beaux Hudson Barnett of Walnut, Mississippi.
Outside of his family, Charles’ true passion was baseball and camping in the Smoky Mountains. Charles coached more than thirty-five years of Little League and Babe Ruth baseball, and traveled to the mountains to camp with his family every chance he could.
Charles was a member of the Mount Vernon Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Ramer, Tennessee.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Paul Jarnagin, Rayford Jarnagin, Josh Jarnagin, and Hoyte Jarnagin, his sister Annie Jarnagin Robertson, and longtime friend, Aaron Dawson. Charles is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchild listed above as well as by his sister, Nelda Sue Jarnagin Halbert, a host of nieces and nephews, and special longtime friends, Jamie Wilson and Terry Crabb.
Charles’ family will receive visitors Thursday, September 10th from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m., and his funeral will be held Friday, September 11th at 11:00 a.m. at Shackleford Funeral Home in Selmer with burial to follow at Mount Vernon Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Ramer.
