Charles William (Billy) Qualls

CHARLES WILLIAM (BILLY) QUALLS

Was born in Savannah, Tennessee on March 8, 1930 the son of the late Lee Andrew and Lorene Bivens Qualls.

On April 15, 1955 he was united in marriage to Marilyn Janet Perry, who survives.

Billy, as he was known by everyone served his country in the United States Air Force for four years during the Korean Conflict and the National Guard for 2 years. He served as Mayor of Savannah, City Commissioner and was a Savannah Volunteer Fireman. Billy served on the State Board of Architects and Engineers and the State Commission of Motor Vehicles under Governor Lamar Alexander. He was self employed, working in appliance repairs and sales. Billy was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where he served as head usher, past Sunday School Class president and on the Building Committee. He was also a member of the Rotary Club and served as president of the Paul Harris Fellow. Billy won two awards that were very special to him, the Young Man of the Year-Distinquished Service Award and the Richard Rogers Memorial True Tiger Award.

In his spare time, Billy loved to travel, fish, hunt, search for arrow heads on the riverbank, play golf and boat on the lake or river. When he could he would listen to gospel music, especially the Gaithers. Billy loved going to ball games and any event that his children or grandchildren were involved in and he loved the Vols. He was an optimistic person and he loved his God,Country and Fellowman.

Billy departed this life on April 25, 2018 in Savannah, Tennessee at the age of 88 years, 1 month and 17 days.

In addition to his wife Marilyn of 63 years, he is survived by his children, Charles Kennedy (Ken) Qualls and Perry Christopher (Chris) Qualls, both of Savannah, Tennessee and Janet (Jan) Lynn Hardin of Buford, Georgia; grandchildren, Nicholas Hardin, Hailee Hardin Fauley, Christopher Hardin, Matthew Hardin, Chandler Hardin, Caleb Hardin, Lindsey Hardin, Dr. Brian Qualls, Lauren Qualls Harbin and Julianne Qualls Fowler and 15 great grandchildren

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Lee Andrew Qualls, Jr., Eddie Qualls and Jimmy Qualls and one sister, Nancy Qualls Hilburn.
