Charles Claude Smith, age 85, of Middleton, departed this life Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Bolivar General Hospital.
Mr. Smith was the son of the late Claude and Maudie Stone Smith. He was born in Memphis and moved to Hardeman County over 60 years ago. In 1955, he married Martha Jane Harris Smith. She passed away in 1982. On December 5, 1982, he married Norma Odell Kirk Lowrance Smith and they were married until her death on December 25, 2010. Mr. Smith was also preceded in death by his step-son, John Wesley "Big John" Lowrance in October, 2017.
He served his country in the US Army and worked at Harmon Automotive in Bolivar as a maintenance mechanic for over 30 years. A member of Grace Apostolic Church near Rogers Springs, he enjoyed his church family and attending services. In his leisure time, Mr. Smith enjoyed fishing, hunting, raising chickens and working on any type of motor.
Survivors include his son, William P. Smith and wife, Babylon, of Selmer; two step-daughters, Brenda Lowrance of Falkner, MS and Deborah Petersen and husband, Tim, of Whiteville, TN; two sisters, Hazel Bryant of Jackson, MS and Frances Ann Lipford of Middleton; three grandchildren, Amy McKee and husband, Barry, Nathaniel Petersen and Tiffany Wilbanks and husband, Jody; and five great-grandchildren, Lane and Lana McKee, Chloe, Madison and Taylor Wilbanks; and two special friends, Tommy and Bettie Sheppard.
