Charley Monroe Duncan ascended to the gates of Heaven August 10, 2022 at 9:55 p.m., escorted home by his mother, Mary Louisa Henry Duncan, and his father, John Frank Duncan. Upon arrival he was greeted by his sisters, Maurine Matlock and Judy Faye Coleman, and his brothers, John Lee Duncan (Mazie) and James L. Duncan. His sister, Maudine Hawkins, has lost the bet on who would get to Heaven first.
Charley was born September 30, 1945, at the family's home in Bethel Springs, TN. On August 28, 1964, he married his long-time sweetheart, Elizabeth Geneva Ervin. He was known as a practical joker and was always a step ahead. He went above and beyond for his family, friends, and community. Raising vegetables, designing and building things, drawing, collecting knives, and traveling, especially out West, were some of Charley's favorite activities. His greatest enjoyment, however, was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. Charley was employed as a die setter for General Electric in Selmer for 30 years before retiring. He was the founder of Duncan Christmas Tree Farm and enjoyed riding his golf cart around the property, visiting with his many friends and customers. Of course, Christmas was Charley's favorite time of year. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Elizabeth Geneva (Ervin) Duncan of Selmer, TN; two daughters, Vicky Goodrum and husband Chris and Natalie Ann Rolison and husband Andrew, all of Selmer, TN; four sons: Tim Duncan and wife Mona of Selmer, TN, Todd Duncan and wife Kime of McNairy, TN, David Duncan of Selmer, TN, and Dylan Ray Duncan and wife Madison of Selmer, TN; eleven grandchildren: Heather Manly, Maggie Hale, Elizabeth Duncan, Michael Goodrum, Houston Goodrum and wife Jessica, Allie Henry and husband Gordon, Emily Shackelford and husband Adam, Mark Connel, Austin Duncan, Caitlyn Duncan, and Eli Duncan; sixteen great-grandchildren and one more on the way: Shawn Johnson, Gracie Johnson, Elana Johnson, Jasper Manly, Westin Hale, Ella Mae Duncan, Hayden Goodrum, Wrenlee Duncan, Hunter Goodrum, Duncan Goodrum, Forrest Goodrum, Jeslynn Goodrum, Rowan Goodrum, Martin Henry, Karah Henry, and Rhett Shackelford; a sister, Maudine Hawkins and husband Bill; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Memorials may be made to Faith Baptist Church in Selmer.
